Accreditation Statement

Program Overview/Goal Statement

The joint providership of Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower, Gastroenterology & Hepatology Advanced Practice Providers, and the Gi Health Foundation presents the Short Bowel Syndrome Preceptorship. The initiative will include a two-part preceptorship consisting of didactic foundational training meetings and in-clinic workshops to improve the knowledge of gastroenterology APPs who manage patients with SBS.

 

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) involved in the care of patients with patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) and gastrointestinal (GI) disorders.

 

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the pathophysiology and current diagnostic strategies for SBS

  • Describe current management options for patients with SBS

  • Discuss the psychosocial impact of SBS and strategies for providing psychosocial support to patients and their families

  • Improve competence in caring for patients with SBS

  • Recognize barriers to optimal SBS treatment

  • Incorporate practical tools to manage access barriers and facilitate timely approval of therapies in SBS

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower and the Gi Health Foundation, in collaboration with Gastroenterology and Hepatology Advanced Practice Providers. Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

 

Physician Associate Credit

The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 18.25 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation

Physician Credit: 

The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse Credit

The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.25 ANCC contact hours, which will include pharmacology hours. 

 

Please note the maximum credit hours to be claimed for the following parts of the initiative:

  • Part 1 - Foundational Training Meetings: Maximum number of credits is 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, 6.25 AAPA Category 1 CME credits, or 6.25 ANCC contact hours.

  • Part 2 - In-Clinic Workshops: Maximum number of credits is 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, 12.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits, or 12.0 ANCC contact hours.
